Stanmore Primary School will be participating in Book Week 2020, which starts on Monday 2nd March.
For part of the week, we will be using a book, ‘Little Turtle turns the tide’ by Lauren Davies for our reading activities. Linked to this will be some exciting art work incorporating the important messages about plastic pollution in our seas. We will be creating a whole school art piece and will need as many plastic milk bottle tops as we can get; please bring in any that you have after half term – thank you.
World Book Day is on Thursday 5th March; staff and children are invited to come in ‘sea’ themed clothing. I am looking forward to seeing mermaids, pirates, possibly even an octopus! On this day, the children will be participating in some fun reading activities and sharing their love of reading with each other. Children may bring in a (named) book from home to share with others in the afternoon. We would also love to see pictures of your children enjoying books in different settings – how creative can you be?
We will be holding a Book Swap on Friday 6th March in the afternoon, where children will be able to swap a book from home with one from another child. This will take place in the afternoon. Please bring in books to be swapped on this day.
We look forward to welcoming PG Wells on Thursday 11th March for our annual Book Fair. This will be in the school hall and will run until 4pm for after school book sales as necessary. Each class will have a timetabled slot during the day to visit the Book Fair. Books may be purchased then with cash, or after school with cash or card. It will not be possible for the children to ‘put by’ books if they see something that they like, but if it is not available when you come to pay at the end of the day, PG Wells can order it in for a speedy delivery. There will be adults on hand to note down titles that the children like as a reminder for them at the end of the day. Each child will be given a World Book Day book token which they can use at the Book Fair to purchase a WBD book. Alternatively, they may use their voucher against the purchase price of another book on the day.
