Our enriching curriculum
Maple Class
Maple class have been enjoying the cooler weather and bug hunting. We found spiders, woodlice and even a giant millipede. In year 1 we have been looking at counting back from ten in 4 different language - English, French, Spanish and Australian!
Rowan
The children in Rowan had their first Listen 2 Me lesson today with the Hampshire Music service. They will be learning to play the ukulele over the term, and I am already looking forward to seeing them perform in their concert at the end. They loved it!
Birch
In Birch Class, we have been learning about what life was like in the Stone Age. We learned about where people lived, what they ate and the tools that they used. We thought about how these things changed through the three periods of the Stone Age and why that might be. We learned that the Stone Age people started as hunter gatherers and evolved to become farmers, training animals to help them.
Sycamore
Sycamore are lucky enough to be the first class to take part in Forest School for this year. We have been back in the mud kitchen, creating delicious recipes, this week we set a fire to make charcoal to make our own pencils and of course, there was the slack line and den building.
Aspen
The Prodigal Son
This week in RE we have looking at the theme of justice, and if Christian's believe God is just. Using the parable, The prodigal Son, we explored the theme of justice by using a conscience alley. Many of us thought that it was unjust for the son to be welcomed home as he had spent all the family's money but was given a party whilst his older brother worked tirelessly without a reward. However, some of us recognised that the father forgave the son as he loved him. We realised that this parable shows how God waits for humans to realise what they have done wrong and ask for forgiveness.
Oak
Oak class have been creating cityscapes to painting in monochromatic colour scheme. They needed to apply their knowledge of tint, tone and shade to achieve their objective.
Elm
In Elm Class, we have used our empathy skills , imaging what it would be like to go back in time as the main character in our key text 'The night at the Frost Fair.' We enjoyed using our senses to visualize being on the frozen London Thames and eating warm, crunchy gingerbread from one of the sellers stalls and all of the antics of an 1800s Frost Fair.
After a busy week completing two of our English outcomes, to an egg-celent standard! The children in Elm class, hatched a plan during their brain break, to create a device that can keep a raw egg intact when dropped from a height.
