Stubbington residential

Year 6 spent the week at Stubbington in Fareham this week. They took part in lots of activities, like Gnome Caching, Earthquake, house challenges and making small hotels for mammals. The children had a brilliant time and the Staff at Stubbington were so impressed with how everyone worked as a team and threw themselves into every activtity.

Thank you to all the staff who gave up their time to support this fantastic trip.

Here’s a few highlights.

Year 3

Birch Class have concluded their art project ,'Contrast and Complement', where they have been learning about features of secondary and tertiary colours on the colour wheel. Inspired by great artists, the children mixed a colour palette using primary colours and used them to create these beautiful watercolours.

Year 4

Year 4 showed off their climbing skills this week in their indoor PE session.

Exploring Stanmore

Catkins

Catkins planned and carried out a route around Stanmore using Google Maps. We looked at the features we could see on the map and then searched for these during our walk. We found a tree that was 99 years old and spotted lots of Autumnal change around Stanmore. We then retraced our steps using Google Street view.

Birch Class

Birch Class carried out an experiment to see which foods were the fattiest. We crushed up a range of different foods and put them on sugar paper, leaving them for an hour. We looked at the greasy marks left behind to see which of the foods contained the most fat.

Sycamore

Sycamore class have been learning how to do addition with exchanging. They have really enjoyed using all the concrete resources to support their learning.

Year 5 /6

Year 5/6 have been exploring different forces this term and also types of friction. This week we looked at water resistance and tested whether the shape of an object made a different to how it moved in the water.

The Brass is Back!

Maple Class

Year 1 have done some amazing work this week in science learning about Venn diagrams and organising different things into the correct categories.

Rowan class

Rowan class have been using their knowledge on primary and secondary colours to create their own piece of art work. They made varying hues of secondary colours by adding different amounts of primary colours together.

Birch class

Year 3 have started their music lesson with Beyond the Beat and have really taken to the new brass instruments. The children all tried really hard and the teachers were impressed with their motivation and resilience.

Year 5 / 6

Year 5 and 6 spent time searching for clues to understand the religious beliefs from the Shang Dynasty and created some fantastic two page spreads with the information.

Woolly Mammoths and Chinese Warriors

Year 3

In Birch Class, we have been learning to write instructions. We followed instructions to make these cute woolly mammoths out of milk containers, and then evaluated how effective the instructions were. We will be using out fantastic instruction-writing skills to help new keepers at Marwell to look after their big cats!

Year 5 and 6

Year 5 and 6 have got creative with their homework, creating lapbook, fact files and even dioramas about Lady Fu Hoa.

All our representatives have now been appointed and we are all looking forward to hearing all their ideas.

Chess and our brilliant curriculum

Chess Club

This week heralded the return of Chess club and KS2 children were delighted to see pupils returning from Winchester College to put them through their paces.

Being historians in Yr 5/6

Year 5/6 have been looking at the Shang Dynasty and learning all about how it was discovered by ancient Chinese writing on oracle bones! They also looked at how to plot history on a timeline and how to use evidence to make deductions about the past.

An 'Egg-cellent' start to the New Year

Year 2

Bread as a symbol is our RE learning for this half term. To help the children understand what bread meant to them, we tasted several different types of bread and shared our thoughts.

Year 5

To help us get to know each other in our new class. Pupils in Oak decorated an egg to represent them. The children loved looking at their new class mates depicted in as an egg.

The Trim Trail has arrived

Children were delighted to come into school today and see the new Trim Trail up and running. It has already been very popular and we are sure it will be put to good use for years to come.

Sports Day 2022

This week the children took part in our school sports day. Races included, sprinting, obstacle and hurdles. All the children participated excellently in all the activities and cheered along for their house. it was lovely to see all the parents, carers and family members who came to support the children and share a picnic lunch with them.

Overall the house winners were the mighty Buzzard!
